Tweet"But to certain Christians it is un-Christian to affirm the dignity and worth of human beings. If that is so, then I cannot be a Christian."
~Madeleine L'Engle, Two-Part Invention: The Story of a Marriage
Sorry for the short post! Life's a little crazy this week. Looking forward to getting back on track soon.

I love Madeleine L'Engle. That quote is lovely. :)
ReplyDeleteI had only read one of her books (A Wrinkle in Time), but I am loving this memoir she wrote.
DeleteWow, so short, but what a powerful quote. I agree with her. If we can't affirm others and lift them up, what's the point in being a follower of Christ? It takes away the command to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

I found it extremely powerful, which is why I memorized the page number so I could come back and share the quote with you all. I think it sums up beautifully why I refuse to cast judgment on those whom others would tell me I *must* judge to be a faithful Christian. As she says, if that is the definition of a Christian, then I do not wish to be one.
DeleteBut of course, it is not. At least not as I understand it.
